Part-time hybrid role (20 hours/week) to begin no later than May 1, 2023. Please note that this position is fully funded for 12 months from the start date, with fundraising underway to transition this to a full-time, permanent role within the organization.

SALARY, BENEFITS

$22/hour, paid biweekly. Paid time off includes organization holidays, sick and personal leave. Monthly stipend provided for utilities, phone, and health care needs.

Position Summary

The Community Liaison is a newly created position in an emerging and impactful nonprofit located within Santa Barbara County. We seek a bilingual, forward-thinking, advocacy-oriented person with the ability to meet each individual and group where they are at to join us at this exciting time. From farmers to fisher folk, grocery stores to farmer’s markets, social service agencies, schools, and grassroots organizers, the Community Liaison ensures every person that seeks our partnership receives equitable access to all that we provide. Please note we are seeking someone fluent in both English and Spanish who also lives in Santa Barbara County for this role.

Responsibilities

While a burgeoning role whose successful applicant will help shape the position itself, we believe the majority of the day-to-day work of the Community Liasion will consist of the following:

  • Creating and maintaining streamlined systems through which network partners, both current and prospective, become informed of and get looped into the activities of SBCFAN,
  • Responding to all inquiries coming through all SBCFAN channels, including website, email, and phone, both in English and in Spanish,
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings between network partners, working groups, and community forums, including keeping notes on said meetings and reporting back to the Executive Director,
  • Maintaining the community calendar and alerting SBCFAN board and staff as to events necessary to continue our work,
  • Gathering data on the effectiveness of our programs, the needs of the network and the dreams of our communities and making recommendations to SBCFAN leadership on how to better serve our region,
  • Assisting in the creation and distribution of resources, as defined by network partners, to enable the network to work more effectively as a whole,
  • Representing SBCFAN at external events, including farmers markets, conferences, and other network-based events,
  • Ensuring the effective and equitable communication of all things SBCFAN, including outreach events, pamphlets, website, and social media to ensure representation across all those in the region who desire to be a part of our network.

Information About Work Hours

This position is hybrid, meaning you can work flexible hours from a home office in addition to work in the field. A laptop computer and all necessary software in order to fulfill this role will be provided to the employee. There is an expectation that up to 25 hours per month may be spent outside the home office, including but not limited to meetings with SBCFAN leadership, conducting the work outlined above, and meetings with members of our network. The occasional weekend or weeknight may be required to better serve the community, though these will always occur with ample notice to and with consent from the liaison.

  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English with a strong ability to present effectively, compellingly, and clearly in both spoken and written formats,
  • Deep understanding of issues of equity, accessibility, and inclusivity, particularly when it comes to program design, grassroots organizing, and working with systemically & systematically disenfranchised people,
  • Consummate customer service skills, immaculate organization with an eye towards ensuring no balls are dropped, all needs are met, and each and every network member feels cared for, seen, and heard no matter their background,
  • An ability to work independently and a strong inner drive, including skills in creating schedules, setting goals, meeting deadlines without high levels of management,
  • Strong emotional intelligence with an ability to keep a calm demeanor and level head in a wide variety of circumstances,
  • Fluency or ability to quickly get fluent with using GSuite, Zoom, Airtable, and Asana, with an ability to keep calm when all systems are down,
  • A passion for creating a more resilient food system for us all, with working knowledge of issues in the areas of the economy, community, health and wellness, and/or foodsheds as a plus.

After launching in 2019 and receiving independent 501c3 status in March of 2022, SBCFAN has already become a cornerstone player in strengthening the robust diversity that makes up Santa Barbara County’s food system.
