The Donor Relations Manager is responsible and accountable for meeting regional goals through strategies that support the department’s overall fundraising plan and the organization’s mission, vision, and values. This individual needs to be open to traveling from Ventura County to San Luis Obispo County.

With a mission to build affordable homes, with site-based services that offer opportunities to change lives and strengthen communities, People’s Self-Help Housing is the longest serving nonprofit developer on California’s Central Coast. We serve low income working families, farmworkers, seniors and veterans and provide welcoming environments for those living with disabilities and for the formerly homeless. Along with building and managing beautiful and accessible neighborhoods in San Luis, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, we offer a broad array of programs to promote, health, education and connections to community-based resources.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, 5 days per week).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for meeting regional goals through strategies that support the department’s overall fundraising plan and the organization’s mission, vision and values.
  • Help to develop and implement fundraising initiatives to engage with high net worth donors and other funding sources.
  • Build and steward relationships with prospective and renewing fund development leads and referrals.
  • Develop activities to assist in the recruitment of major and planned gifts.
  • In concert with other department staff, maintain the day-to-day administrative and operational functions necessary to track and report on fund development revenues.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and updating of the fundraising database, and recommend changes necessary to maintain an effective system.
  • Manage digital and print fundraising related information working independently and interdepartmentally for internal and external campaigns.
  • Provide ongoing information to department members relating to the performance of regional resource development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5+ years of relevant vocational experience in an equivalent position.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising, business relationships, philanthropy, or related field.
  • Knowledge of major gift programs and donor cultivation
  • Familiarity with the philanthropic community of the Central Coast
  • Progressive experience in a nonprofit environment.
  • Proven record as a team member and collaborator.
  • Superb/exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including editing, public speaking and donor related discussions.
  • Understanding of fundraising and giving trends and methods preferred by Central Coast communities and beyond.
  • Ability to work as part of a geographically dispersed team and collaborate in joint fund development efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to write proposals and work closely with grant makers.
  • Ability to work to budgets, gather and evaluate data, and prepare clear and accurate reports or other written materials.
  • Ability to work independently and set and meet self-imposed deadlines.
  • Experience and ability to use donor tracking software, such as Donor Perfect and work efficiently within Microsoft Office.

Starting Compensation Range: $70,000-$80,000 annually (final salary or hourly rate will be determined based on experience and skills).
