Fairview Gardens Farm

Compensation: $17-$18/hour, average 25 – 40 hours/week

Seasonal: June 6 – August 12, 2022

Fairview Gardens Farm is a nonprofit, certified organic urban farm in Goleta, CA consisting of nearly 13 acres of protected agricultural land. We grow and supply fresh, high-quality seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers to our surrounding community. Fairview Gardens also offers both school year and summer programs for youth ages 0 – 18. Our youth education programs cultivate stewardship, build community, encourage curiosity, and deepen connections to the farm and natural world. Summer Camp programs provide an opportunity for youth to spend a week outdoors making friends, exploring the land and learning through hands-on garden activities, farm based snacks, art projects, games, stories, and songs.

Responsibilities
-Collaborate with co-educator to plan, organize, and lead all aspects of summer camp programming for groups of 10-12 students grades prek – kindergarten, 1st – 2nd, or 3rd – 5th grade with guidance and support from Education Director
-Manage a group of campers throughout the day. This includes but is not limited to:
-Ensuring children are supervised and safe at all times
-Supporting their basic needs as well as social emotional needs
-Facilitating free play and exploration and helping children problem solve
-Preparing for and implementing activities and curriculum
-Building relationships with children and being a positive role model
-Interact with parents and caretakers regularly in a professional manner
-Help manage education supplies and materials, ensures all education zones remain clean and organized throughout the summer
-Provide support and guidance to Counselors in Training
-Maintain regular communication with Education Director

Requirements
-Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the season
-Must be available to work the entirety of the summer, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (full-time), or 8:00 – 1:00pm (half-time)
-Must be able to attend summer camp training May 31st – June 3rd
-Demonstrated energy, commitment, and vitality for working with children
-Ability to develop and implement farm and nature based curriculum and activities
-Must have reliable transportation
-First Aid/CPR certified or Wilderness First Aid certified

Bi-Lingual
Cooking, gardening, and naturalist skills
