Position Title:                     LEAD COMMUNITY OUTREACH PRESENTATION COORDINATOR (SANTA MARIA)

Position Summary

The LEAD (Lived Experience Advocacy Development) Outreach and Presentation Coordinator oversees the outreach, trainings, presentations, community events and coordination of all LEAD functions in addition to the political advocacy team of mental health stakeholders. The LEAD Outreach, Training & Presentations Coordinator is responsible for outreaching to peer groups to identify the most pressing issues of concern, and to recruit and train individuals with lived experience to develop campaigns related to these issues, and lobby for policy change. The LEAD Outreach, Trainings & Presentations Coordinator is responsible for the trauma informed coordination of programs that outreach to and provide education for gatekeepers in the community about mental illness, TMHA services and community resources. Programs include Alliance for Mental Wellness (AFMW) events, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), and NAMI’s In Our Own Voice, as well as general community education about mental health.  Additionally, the Outreach, Trainings & Presentations Coordinator will coordinate staff and volunteer participation in community events, oversee outreach tracking, lobbying tracking and provide training and team meetings for outreach, advocacy and presentation staff. The Outreach, Trainings & Presentations Coordinator will identify innovative solutions to reach community members in a safe and accessible manner, including but not limited to video conferencing, social media, and no-contact outreach events. This position promotes the TMHA mission and mental health education in the community, and works with the Social Media Specialist and Community Engagement Team to promote special events and educational campaigns. The Outreach & Presentations Coordinator will work collaboratively with TMHA program staff to maintain information for promotion and messaging content, to attend community events, as well as to track program outcomes. In all areas of work, the Outreach, Trainings & Presentations Coordinator will uphold the program philosophy, promoting, recovery, wellness, and Trauma-Informed Care.

Hours/ Salary

Full-time, 30 hours per week. $22.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience. Includes a generous individual benefits package.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s Degree, preferably in psychology, social work, sociology, communications, public relations or related field. Bilingual and Bicultural preferred. Must be an individual with experience as a consumer of mental health services. Excellent computer skills required, including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video conferencing platforms, web and social media community (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger) and web marketing. Experience required: At least two years of experience in nonprofit development work and/or event coordination. Must have knowledge/experience in, data entry, database or donor software management, mail merge and spreadsheets. Will require some weekend event/outreach participation. Must be responsible, and reliable, and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of mental illness treatment and medications, as well as related systems such as Political, County Behavioral Health, Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation etc. a plus. Dependable transportation and ability to travel within the county and state when needed. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral/written communication skills.  Able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business. Must have a strong commitment to the right, ability and choice of each person to live in a safe environment; develop a meaningful role in the community; and have access to competent and continuous supports and services. Conditions of employment include: Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements.  May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance.  Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees.  Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster, or request a medical exemption with a healthcare provider document advising against the vaccine OR an exemption based on a strongly held religious belief or practice per the California Department of Public Health. Those who request and are approved for an exemption will be required to test for COVID-19 weekly and send the results to TMHA’s Human Resources Director every 7 days.  Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.  Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
