Brief Summary of Job Duties

This University Development Officer serves as Associate Director of Development (Associate Director) for UC Santa Barbara programs focused on the education abroad and capital internship programs, pre-college program and student academic success initiatives. Primary emphasis is fundraising for direct student support in the form of scholarships as well as unrestricted, current-use gifts to benefit UC Santa Barbara and to optimize philanthropic support for Education Abroad Program (EAP), Capital Internships (UCDC & UCCS) and other student academic success initiatives available to undergraduate students, in response to priorities established by the Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Faculty Chair of the Education Abroad and Capital Internship programs and other campus stakeholders. The Associate Director focuses about eighty percent time on fund-raising activities, including identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts up to $50,000 and collaborates with the Senior Director of Development, Student Academic Initiatives on major gifts. Twenty percent is focused on other activities related to fundraising, including administrative duties such as planning, coordinating and executing aspects of the Education Abroad, Capital Internships, and Pre-College development programs, supporting the EAP Ambassadors (an advisory board of volunteers), and donor stewardship. The Associate Director is responsible for designing and executing planned strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, closing and stewardship of gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations in order to maximize philanthropic support for student academic success opportunities and UC Santa Barbara.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • 1-3 years Proven success in fundraising, sales, or related business fields Required
  • 1-3 years Experience in grant writing, impact report writing and appeal writing Preferred
  • Ability to assess and understand donor needs and communicate the importance of division and donor partnership in achieving the mission.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Ability and willingness to travel (approximately 20 days annually) across California and other regions as appropriate is required.
  • This is an annually renewable contract position with no limit on total duration.
  • Ability and willingness to work some weekends and evenings.

Budgeted Salary Range:  $82,300 – $85,000 annually
