Local Artist Chris Gocong’s Art Exhibit MAGNETIC Opens Saturday, July 15, 6 – 9 pm at Helena Mason Art Gallery

Santa Barbara, CA – Get ready for Magnetic by Chris Gocong. In each generation a handful of individuals emerge that resonate and represent the collective. Gocong’s newest portrait series attempts to capture magnetic icons through explorative portraiture.

This event is happening on Saturday, Jul 15, 2023, from 6 – 9 pm at Helena Mason Art Gallery located at 48 Helena Avenue, Santa Barbara, CA 93101.

It will be an unforgettable night filled with art, beats by Diego Rockwell, drinks by Cutler’s Artisan Spirits and Flying Embers. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a part of something truly special.

Gocong is a visual artist with a passion for capturing emotion through portraiture, figurative art and abstraction.  The main body of his work is inspired by the commonality of human emotion and consciousness. His pursuit in portraiture is less about copying features to reproduce a likeness, but rather trying to capture the multiple emotional layers of the subject.

Gocong loves to paint with acrylic on canvas, as he strives to paint in bursts of energy.  Although portraiture is his main interest, Gocong doesn’t limit himself to one mode—his artistic expression ranges from cosmic abstractionism, exploratory textural pieces, to striking pop art and everything in between.  At exhibits, viewers often comment that the collection looks as though it was painted by multiple artists rather than one.  Looking deeper though, the common signature can be teased out: the human condition.

Gocong was drafted to the NFL from Cal Poly SLO where he studied biomedical engineering.  He played 7 years as a linebacker for the NFL (Philadelphia Eagles ’06-’10; Cleveland Browns ’10-‘12). He lives in Santa Barbara with his wife and two daughters.
