Homegrown Talents Take Stage at Elings Park’s “Local Vibes” Concert: Doublewide Kings, Salty Strings, and Chris Love on Friday, September 8

Elings Park presents three popular local musical groups in a family-friendly outdoor “Local Vibes” concert on Friday, September 8 starting at 5 p.m.

Local favorites Doublewide Kings play Americana, original music, and classic rock; Salty Strings reunites for genre-bending bluegrass; and Christian Love (son of Beach Boy Mike Love) and Company open the show.

General admission tickets are now on sale, at $29 for adults, and free for kids 12 and younger. Tickets are available at https://elingspark.ticketsauce.com/e/local-vibes. Parking is limited and costs $10 per car. Ridesharing is encouraged. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

“This concert celebrates and showcases some of Santa Barbara’s brightest talents,” said Dean Noble, the Park’s executive director. “There’s enough variety of music to offer something for everyone, and is an inexpensive night out together, especially for families.”

Attendees are asked to bring blankets or low-backed chairs for seating. Food trucks on-site include Sassafras, serving “Elevated Comfort Food” (tri tip sandwiches, hot chicken nuggets, and grilled cheese, bacon, and fried egg sandwiches), and Big Truck Foods (grilled sandwiches, burgers, and loaded fries). Beer and wine are also for sale. A dance floor is available, and bubbles and beach balls are encouraged, but dogs are not allowed.

About Doublewide Kings

Doublewide Kings present a blend of original works, acoustic Americana music, and high-energy classic rock favorites. The band recently sold-out four consecutive concerts at the Lobero Theatre, which included tributes to Neil Young; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; and the Allman Brothers; and showcased the Kings’ original compositions. Later this year, they appear with the Santa Barbara Symphony at the Granada Theatre in “Moondance,” dedicated to music by Van Morrison.

“Sleep Never Rusts,” a live recording of their Neil Young show, streams at Amazon and Deezer, music from other live shows are streamed on SoundCloud, and concert videos are posted on YouTube.

Band members are all Santa Barbara natives. Guitarist Palmer Jackson and lead guitarist Cord Pereira met at the Cate School in the 1980s. Singer/harmonica player John Simpson, drummer Charlie Crisafulli, and Jackson were all members of band Mobile Homeboys. Bassist Robert Teneyck met Jackson at work 15 years ago. Guitarist Jackson Gilles (“American Idol”) joins the band for this concert.

About Salty Strings

Salty Strings was formed in 2018 when guitarist Zach Witter posted on Craigslist looking for bluegrass players in the area. First to respond were UCSB students Daniel Elkin (mandolin) and Ilan Macadam-Somer (cello), who had just met at UCSB. Jon Bastian heard of the band, and learned the banjo so he could join. Upright bass player Kai Kopecky attended a show at Topa Topa Brewery and joined soon after.

All five members also sing, and their self-titled album (recorded in a garage-turned-studio on the Mesa) was released in February 2023. Elkin and Bastian have since moved to Colorado, and Kopecky travels the world researching coral reefs for his Ph.D. The band reunites for this show.

About Christian Love and Company

Christian and Company is the latest project of Santa Barbara guitarist and keyboardist Christian Love, son on Beach Boy Mike Love. He opens the show with his Central Coast-inspired rock and roll, reggae, and classic surf music.
