Girls Inc. Carpinteria & Planned Parenthood Central Coast Partner for Sex Ed Series

Girls Inc. of Carpinteria today announced a new, comprehensive sexuality education series with Planned Parenthood California Central Coast created to ensure teenage girls have the knowledge and skills they need to stay healthy. The weekly series, called ‘Teen Talk,’ will be offered virtually to members of the Eureka! program for college-bound girls and is part of the organization’s ongoing outreach efforts around healthy sexuality.

An evidence-informed and LGBTQ+ inclusive program, Teen Talk will educate girls about sexuality and sexual health, while providing information about healthy relationships, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), birth control, anatomy and physiology, and encouraging parent and trusted adult communication.

“Girls deserve comprehensive education that empowers them to be healthy and take ownership of their sexual health,” said Jamie Collins, executive director of Girls Inc. Carpinteria. “We are proud to partner with Planned Parenthood California Central Coast to bring this virtual series to our girls to ensure they have the skills, knowledge, and support they need to make positive decisions and lead healthy, safe lives.”

As part of Girls Inc.’s mission to help girls grow up strong, smart, and bold, the organization’s programming places a focus on girls’ physical, emotional, and cognitive health, as well as understanding their sexual development. In addition to the series with Planned Parenthood, Girls Inc. of Carpinteria is committed to outreach efforts around comprehensive healthy sexuality and has been providing programming within Carpinteria Unified schools and on Girls Inc’s campus for the past 25 years.

Each component of the Teen Talk series begins with a Parent Orientation and builds girls’ developmentally appropriate knowledge and skills in four content areas: Healthy Relationships, Sexuality Thumbprint, Sexual Health and Reproduction and Sex, Media, and Technology. Girls Inc. Healthy Sexuality assists girls in understanding and embracing sexuality with a positive, empowered approach that is built on a foundation of accurate information, cultural sensitivity, and values of inclusiveness and respect.
