Summary of Job Details

The Programs Director has overall responsibility for a multi-pronged engagement strategy for UCSB alumni that includes numerous campus-based and regional events, for alumni including www.gauchonetwork.com, student activities intended to foster a culture of philanthropy, and major events including the All Gaucho Reunion, Alumni Awards Dinner, and Day of Service. This includes oversight, management and supervision of one FTE) and approximately six student employees; and overall responsibility for strategic planning and design of programs that achieve Alumni Association, campus, division and department goals and objectives. The Programs Director is involved in long-range planning and decision-making. The Programs Director is ultimately responsible for an annual budget of approximately $250,000. Successful performance of these duties requires highly developed communication and organization skills, demonstrated capacity for leadership, ability to understand, interpret and communicate policy, work with diverse people, work under pressure and independently meet deadlines. The Programs Director must develop broad knowledge of Alumni Affairs, Development strategies and current UCSB news to provide a resource for interested alumni and other individuals. Must be able to work independently, act with sound judgment and high degree of confidentiality, anticipate job requirements, prioritize and coordinate multiple complex tasks. Must possess proficient knowledge of MS Office and demonstrated ability to quickly learn various software programs. Must be available for frequent travel and to work weekends and evenings as needed.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work harmoniously and effectively with academic leaders, faculty, trustees, community leaders, donors, volunteers and other staff. Required
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently to meet deadlines without close supervision; self-direction in the initiation, coordination and completion of tasks, acute attention to detail is essential.

Budgeted Salary Range: $61,700 – $78,000/ year
