The Individual Giving Manager plays a critical role in advancing MOXI’s mission. This employee oversees and contributes to all fundraising activities for individual donors including site visits, one-on-one meetings for key solicitors, receptions, dinners, events, outreach, phone calls, e-mail and social media campaigns, direct-mail appeals, and personalized targeted solicitation. This position will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual prospects and donors to move up the giving pipeline.
- Manage a portfolio of members and donors to engage and steward.
- Create and manage a donor stewardship plan to move individual donors up the pipeline through regular interactions and expressions of gratitude.
- Oversee overall departmental donor benefit fulfillment (recognition, event correspondence, cards/photobooks/gifts, etc.).
- Make timely calls to thank individual donors ($100+) and coordinate thank you calls and notes from the Board, CEO, and Director of Development as appropriate.
- Manage Spring and Fall appeal planning/strategy, communication, and execution, including writing polished and compelling copy for large-scale mailings and emails.
- Perform key functions for fundraiser/friendraiser events throughout the year (i.e. managing event logistics, soliciting in kind support, writing copy for letters/invitations/emails, drafting major gift underwriting proposals, procuring RSVPs and guest names, following up with donors on silent auction donations, liaising with Marketing regarding event collateral, attending/working events as a front-facing Development representative, etc.):

- Exhibit Openings/Meet the Artist Receptions
- Private and small group tours (throughout the year)
- Board-related events
- Innovator Circle events, tours, and trips
- Public or ticketed programs as appropriate, i.e.: MOXI Afterparties
- Attend scheduled department and interdepartmental meetings and perform appropriate follow-up.
- Assist Director of Development and CEO with prospect research and produce profiles for major gift solicitation purposes.
- Assist Development team on accommodating Board members and major donors with special requests regarding tours, events, in-kind donations to other institutions, etc.
- Manage communications for keeping major gift donors informed and engaged.
- Work with the Board and Development Coordinator to track contributed income, expenses, and cash flow for individual donors.
- Manage and steward developing affinity groups, which could include a grandparents group, LGBTQ+ parents group, etc.
- Perform regular data entry utilizing the Altru database to record donor and prospect information, touch points, event information, ticketing, and other data pertinent to fundraising efforts.
- Work closely with the Membership team to align efforts, create a pipeline for donors, identify donor prospects, and elevate members to donors.
- Work closely with the Education and Exhibit teams to create special events to provide opportunities to introduce MOXI to new prospects as well as steward our current donors.
- Serve as a liaison to the Marketing and Events teams on Development-related needs.
- Regularly perform administrative functions for the Development team including scheduling, correspondence, invoices, copying, filing, mailing, meeting material preparation, and similar tasks.
- Support a culture of cross-organization communication, collaboration and information sharing.
- Other duties as assigned – such as Manager on duty shifts.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and experience using a customer relations management system.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from donors, groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Experience with gift and pledge processing, prospect research, qualifying, reporting and donor acknowledgement, benefit and recognition programs.
- Familiarity with the concepts, tools and requirements of major gifts and annual campaigns.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills; specifically, the ability to write creatively and persuasively.
- Conscientious and detail-oriented; must have an appreciation of the necessity of following through with paperwork, record-keeping, and documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must be receptive to the ideas of others and able to work cooperatively to prioritize tasks and accommodate many different and conflicting concerns.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
- Natural ability to connect with people.
- Diplomacy and discretion required as well as a respect for and understanding of complex donor and Board relationships.
Previous Experience Required
- 3+ years’ fundraising experience in a museum or similar setting
- Proven track record successfully stewarding donors
- Experience with donor management systems/database
- Experience managing special events
- This position requires the ability to work five days/week onsite, be highly organized and prompt, work with multiple technologies, troubleshoot and problem solve, and communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing.
- Applicant must be able to bend, squat, lift push/pull up to 40 lbs.
- Schedule and availability reflect that the organization is a 7-day a week operation, with frequent early morning, evening, and weekend programs.
- Regular predictable attendance is required.
