About Unite to Light
Unite to Light is a Santa Barbara-based nonprofit bringing clean, reliable solar light and power to communities around the world. Since 2010, we’ve reached people in more than 80 countries. Our programs support students studying after dark, midwives saving lives, families rebuilding after disaster, and our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We’re funded through generous donors, partners, and our Buy One, Give One solar light sales.
The Role
Unite to Light is looking for an organized, creative, and self-directed Events Coordinator to help plan and execute our Fall Fundraiser, an event supporting our mission in early November. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves bringing people together for a good cause and wants to make a visible, hands-on impact.
The event concept itself isn’t fully locked in yet, so there’s real room to bring your own ideas and creativity to the table, from format to theme to program.
What You’ll Do
- Help shape and finalize the concept, format, and program for the Fall Fundraiser
- Coordinate all core event logistics: venue/site selection, food & beverage, rentals, timeline, and run of show
- Support event marketing and promotion, working with our team on messaging and outreach
- Manage communications with vendors, guests, and partners
- Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers before and during the event
- Help identify and secure event sponsorships, and support sponsor communications
- Provide regular updates to the Unite to Light team on planning progress
Details
- Schedule: Approximately 10 hours/week initially, ramping up to approximately 20 hours/week as the event approaches.
- Duration: Now through mid/late November (event takes place between November 5-8, exact date TBD)
- Location: Hybrid — 1–2 in-person days per week in Santa Barbara required; office space provided. Remote work for remaining hours.
- Compensation: $22-28/hour, commensurate with experience; this is a paid, part-time contract role and does not include benefits
- Equipment: Candidates should have access to their own computer and phone
What We’re Looking For
- Experience planning or coordinating events, fundraisers, or comparable projects
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple moving pieces at once
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Comfort reaching out to vendors, sponsors, and community partners
- A collaborative, resourceful, can-do attitude
To Apply
Please email your resume and a cover letter to megan@unitetolight.org
Rather than a generic cover letter, we’d love for you to tell us about one event you’ve managed in the past. In your letter, please include:
- One struggle you ran into while planning or executing it
- One thing that made the event special
We’re interested in how you think and what you’ve learned. We don’t have a problem with AI but convince us there’s a human on the other side of the computer.
Position is opened until filled. Please submit by July 26th, midnight, to be considered for first round interviews.
