The Carpinteria Children’s Project is seeking a dynamic Director of Development to expand their development program, increase their overall giving, and support the future of the organization.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development will lead the Carpinteria Children’s Project’s development program by creating and implementing a strategic development plan to meet budgeted contributed income goals and maximize philanthropic support.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to create and implement an annual strategic development plan.
- Foster positive relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Plan and manage direct mail and related campaigns to acquire, renew and retain donors who contribute annual operating support.
- Work closely with the five-member Development Committee to plan and implement fundraising events.
- Develop a major gifts program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors capable of making larger gifts in addition to their annual operating support.
- Manage and implement the foundation and corporate grants program to maximize unrestricted and restricted institutional contributions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tracking of all grant deadlines and reporting requirements.
- Draft and finalize grant applications, reports, and correspondence.
- Research and identify potential new sources of foundation and corporate support.
- Maintain the Bloomerang database with a high degree of accuracy to support the development program.
- Oversee the timely processing of gifts and pledges.
- Conduct data queries to support the development program and respond to ED/board requests for information.
- Prepare monthly metric reports for the ED and board to monitor progress toward goals for donor acquisition, renewal, and retention, as well as progress toward budgeted goals.
- In collaboration with social media contractor, craft a social media strategy to advance the brand of the organization in the community. Ensure all social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) is active and updated regularly in collaboration with the development coordinator.
- Collaborate with the ED and Finance Committee to develop the annual contributed income budget.
- Develop, motivate, and evaluate the Development and Marketing Coordinator.
- Train staff and board members in fundraising techniques and stewardship practices.
- Oversee development of collateral materials to reflect the mission and vision of the organization.
- Work with the ED to create the Annual Impact Report.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Alignment and sincere affinity for the mission, vision, and values of Carpinteria Children’s Project
- Minimum three to five years of fundraising experience, including direct experience securing major gifts, cultivating individual donors, and increasing support from existing donors.
- Demonstrated ability to steward donors and increase overall giving to a growing organization.
- Superb interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- High energy, positive “can-do” attitude, flexibility, creativity, and close attention to detail with a high degree of initiative.
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Expertise utilizing fundraising software, Google Office platform, and video conferencing.
- Track record of leveraging data for decision making and to influence decision makers.
- Donor and volunteer service mentality.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
OTHER ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up-to 25 pounds at a time.
- Prolonged periods are sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis (TB) test clearance.
- DOJ/FBI/Child Abuse Index fingerprint clearance.
- Vaccination verification of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP).
- Covid-19 vaccine
- Valid California Driver’s License and vehicle insurance is required.
COMPENSATION:
- $75,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position. Benefits after 30 days include health, dental, and vision insurance, sick/pto accrual, paid holidays, and a retirement plan with a 2% match.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed within a school or office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are typically no hazardous conditions. Occasional lifting and carrying is required.
