Associate Organizing Director
ABOUT CAUSE:
Founded in 2001, CAUSE’s mission is to build grassroots power to advance social, economic and environmental justice for the people of the Ventura and Santa Barbara counties region through policy research, leadership development, organizing, and advocacy.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
CAUSE is currently seeking an Associate Organizing Director that will leverage their seasoned organizing, leadership development, and management skills to deepen the impact of existing programming and grow membership in thoughtful and sustaining ways. With the heart of an organizer and a visionary brain, this role is responsible for overseeing CAUSE’s team of Ventura County Organizers. This position will report to CAUSE’s Organizing Director and work closely with CAUSE’s Santa Barbara County based Associate Organizing Director. The Associate Organizing Director will play a hands-on role directly supervising up to 4 organizers, developing work plans, campaign timelines and ensuring execution of these plans while providing their supervisees necessary training, guidance and feedback. This Associate Organizing Director will be ultimately responsible for Ventura County organizers’ ability to build a base of immigrants, youth, renters and workers who will push forward local campaigns around social, economic and environmental justice. This position is regional and can be based anywhere in Ventura County.
The Organizing Director’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Train organizers to use the CAUSE organizing model to recruit and retain adult, young adult and youth leaders in the cities of Oxnard, Santa Paula and Ventura.
- Directly supervising CAUSE’s 3-4 Santa Barbara County based organizers, providing coaching, feedback and accountability to their supervisees
- Facilitate weekly city based team meetings and create space for strategizing and coordination between that city’s organizers and policy advocates
- Ensure that any CAUSE community facing publications are accessible to our membership base by working with the Policy/Communications Team to develop and review materials like flyers, fact sheets, talking points etc. needed for organizing campaigns
- Represent the organization in regional and/or statewide organizing circles
- Participating in some grassroots fundraising, grant writing and reporting
- Conduct regular employee and program evaluations
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required at a level of proficiency to develop raps and review Spanish language publications for accessibility
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required
- 1+ years of supervision experience, can include temporary/part-time staff, interns
- Experience with and desire to work with diverse cultures and the ability to engage people from a variety of backgrounds
- Ability to interact professionally with elected officials, donors, board members, leaders of ally organizations, and news reporters
- Strategic and analytical approach to political issues
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to set own work priorities, manage responsibilities and time
- Flexibility and willingness to sometimes work long hours and weekends, and be able to travel throughout region, state and nation.

Valid drivers’ license and dependable access to a car to drive for work required.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position has flexible hours and may sometimes include evening and weekend work. CAUSE provides flexible paid time off and holidays.
COMPENSATION
Starting pay for this salaried position is $70,720 per year. Compensation includes paid holidays, vacation, sick time and comprehensive health benefits including medical and dental, as well as an annual retirement contribution, monthly stipend for use of cellphone and car.
