Passion for Independence – ILRC Fundraiser

For the 2nd time, the Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) will be having a fundraiser event, Passion for Independence on October 23, 2021 in Santa Barbara!

2021 is a big year for us as we will be celebrating our 45^th Anniversary as a disability service and advocacy non-profit organization.  We work with individuals experiencing all disabilities, of all ages, and income levels to achieve their independence goals with an overarching lifework of keeping individuals with disabilities from being isolated. We do this by providing; resources, assistance, and targeted programs to help with all the details of independence such as: affordable/accessible housing, benefits, transportation, personal assistance, assistive technology, and true peer support. We also work to create systemic change in the subjects of accessibility and disability culture.

This year’s event will focus on two main needs; a fund to continue helping individuals of all ages to transition from nursing facilities and return to an independent setting with housing and personal care supports, and assistive technology to allow them to be integrated members of our communities.  Transition support can be the hardest to find and without funding to assist with rental deposits, essential home furnishings and assistive technology devices, it would be near impossible to transition an individual back into the community.  Additional fundraising focuses are our Youth Transition Program providing targeted services to youth ages 14-24 with all disabilities in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties helping with independent living skills building, financial management, educational, and employment goals, etc.
