OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
We’re looking for a full-time director to oversee the Youth Advisory Board [YAB], mental health education and outreach for parents, youth, teachers, and community members, and teach Mental Health First Aid and QPR.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the YAB, and mental health education which includes managing staff, program budgets, meeting grant goals, and communication with grant partners. Responsible for community engagement and cultivating partnerships with organizations and school districts. Assist with community presentations to increase awareness. Participate with partners in creating coordinated wellness campaigns to implement early intervention and prevention programs. Develop long and short-term goals that align with YouthWell’s strategic plan. Foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration among program teams and students.
- MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
- Community Outreach
- Schedule and manage MHFA and QPR classes
- Teach MHFA and QPR classes (training is provided)
- YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD
- Facilitate (zoom plus 2 in-person) YAB monthly meetings August-May held on Sunday afternoons for students throughout Santa Barbara County.
- Facilitate regional in-person meetings 1-2 times/month for students to work on campaigns and campus clubs.
- Empower student voices in mental health advocacy. Work to bring their voice to various forums, meetings and events and support students in developing talking points. Support students in working with their school leadership and staff to provide wellness campaigns. Support students in messaging and creating and posting on social media.
- Serve as a positive role model to high school and college students
- Promotion and coordination with the youth in the planning and attendance of the Youth Summit.
REQUIREMENTS
- Masters or Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.
- Two years of management experience with some nonprofit background preferable.
- Mental Health First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire in order to teach.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Ability to communicate and work with youth, young adults, and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure privacy in communications about youth, families, and staff.
- Demonstrate effective professional boundaries and self-care measures. Compassionate listening skills.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends to accommodate youth and family schedules
BENEFITS

- Vacation time, holiday pay, sick days for employees who work 20+ hours/week after 3 months.
SALARY & HOURS
- $62,000 – $72,800 DOE
- Status: Full-Time Exempt – 40 hrs week
- Position is hybrid (80% in-person and 20% flexible) and includes driving. Occasional nights and weekends.
