TITLE: Community Support Specialist – Residential Services
Immediate Supervisor: House Manager
Supervision Exercised: Persons Served

SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the House Manager, this position is responsible for the care,
supervision and training of people with developmental disabilities living in a community
residential environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides supervision and training to adults with developmental disabilities in order to
promote each individual’s growth towards his/her highest potential
• Responsible for the implementation of each resident’s program plan including data
collection
• Reviews files for each resident on a regular basis
• Assists in the development and monitoring of individual and group programs
• Utilizes behavior modification techniques and other instructional strategies to
enhance the progress of achieving goals and objectives
• Communicates concerns related to program participant needs to supervisor in a
timely manner
• Acts as an appropriate role model
• Assists individuals in attending social activities to further social skills
• Knows whereabouts of persons served at all times
• Responsible for daily routine(s) of residents and emergency medical procedures
• Maintains a dated, running log of observations to provide other staff with current
information concerning residents
• Participates in cleaning the home, completing laundry and preparing food as
assigned
• Calls in hourly if assigned
• Assists residents in personal hygiene and household routines
• Checks all outside doors consistently throughout the night by touring the home;
ensures the security of the home
• Handles difficult behavioral situations with residents in danger of injuring themselves
or others
• Acts as a liaison between other staff, supervisors, administrators, residents and
community members
• Attends meetings as assigned
• Completes records and reports as needed
• Administers medication
• Complies with all Momentum WORK, CCL & OSHA policies, procedures and
regulations
• Must be able to transport participants, unless waived by the Executive Director.
• Other related duties and responsibilities on an as needed basis

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to stand, sit for long periods of time
• Ability to go up and down stairs
• Ability to speak, read, hear and understand technical written materials
• Lifting may be required; may exceed 25 lbs
• Ability to bend, lift and carry
• Ability to operate machinery without posing a safety hazard to self or others
• Full awareness of environmental stimuli
• Ability to implement Crisis Management, Safety & ProAct techniques

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate of Arts degree or equivalent in
related field preferred (work experience could be substituted for education)
• Computer skills (Microsoft word)
• Two (2) years’ experience working with persons with developmental and/or other
disabilities in a dormitory/group residence preferred
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality regarding consumer and other related
information
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to complete Medical Certification Course
• Ability to complete tasks with numerous interruptions
• Ability to work with little direct supervision
• Ability to manipulate numbers
• Computer proficiency
• Compassion and respect for persons with disabilities
• May need to be available during any disasters, per disaster plan
• Must have reliable phone
• Must be over age 25 to be insured, have a valid CA Driver’s License and acceptable
driving record.
• Valid certification in CPR/1st Aid (Training available)
