The Position

The Community Engagement Facilitator works collaboratively with parents, school personnel, public and private agencies and other key partners to promote parent and community engagement to improve educational, social and economic conditions and systems. The Community Engagement Facilitator is part of the Parent and Community Organizing team to conduct outreach and develop parents’ and community members’ leadership skills by creating meaningful opportunities to build on their skills, and knowledge to create positive community change. The Community Engagement Facilitator works alongside the Leadership Development and Community Organizing Manager to accomplish the program goals and strategic plan. This position reports to the Chief Strategy and North County Programs Officer.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach and Community Engagement  

  1. Cultivate and promote positive relationships with parents and community members.
  2. Coordinate community conversations to identify and address barriers and promote solutions or other actions.
  3. Recruit and mobilize parents and community members to carry out grassroots advocacy and engagement.
  4. Co-facilitate regular community meetings to foster relationship building, collaboration, promote equitable participation to strengthen relationships, and support leadership development among community members.

Community Partnerships and Collaborations

  1. Cultivate and develop community relationships across diverse communities, organizations, and leaders who support cross-collaboration in providing parent and community engagement opportunities.
  2. Work collaboratively in organizing and support with coordination of community projects or events, discussions, fundraisers, and leadership development workshops and trainings.

Communication

  1. Provide input, information, and material, as requested, that support internal and external communication efforts regarding engagement opportunities and community projects through social media, e-blasts, community calendars, school districts, FSA website, and other promotional campaigns.

FSA Administrative and Management

  1. Meet regularly with the Leadership Development and Community Organizing team to ensure fidelity of community organizing implementation.
  2. Represent FSA community engagement projects at meetings, community events, and with funders.

 

Employment Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Community Advocacy, Social Justice, or related field is and/or experience, required; OR a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  2. Must speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish fluently.
  3. Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  4. Ability to have an empathetic interpersonal style to establish trusting relationships with community members, community organizations, collaborative partners, and with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, lived experiences, and gender backgrounds.
  5. Model and ensure an inclusive, welcoming, and inspiring organizational culture aligned with FSA’s values.
  6. Strong written and verbal skills, including one-on-one communication and in group format.
  7. Background check required. Valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance required. Reliable transportation is necessary.

Classification, Hours, and Pay Rate:

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay range is $22.00-$24.00/hour.
