The Clinical Therapist provides counseling and psychotherapy services to adolescent mothers and family members including diagnostic and functional evaluation, evidence-based, trauma informed therapy and client-centered treatment, treatment planning and crisis assessment and intervention. The Mental Health Practitioner ensures services are provided in a manner that is timely, necessary, and consistent with the needs, strengths and cultural framework of the mother. Provides guidance to AFLP staff for successful treatment outcomes.

This position is part-time with benefits and starting out between $32.00 – $34.00 per hour. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts diagnostic and functional assessments (i.e., Diagnostic Predictive Scales–8, Columbia Depression Scale, and select items from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale for Children, Beck Depression Inventory, Postpartum Depression Screening Scale, and/or the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) to identify child, parent, and expecting parent needs, limitations, and potentials; observes parent and child interactions, and transfers diagnostic findings into treatment plan.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans, documenting problems, needs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Utilizes a trauma-informed treatment approach to enable expectant and parenting teens to learn to cope with past trauma, increase their ability to regulate emotions, gain insight into their actions, develop a strong and healthy sense of self.
  • Provides an array of therapy services including individual, group and/or family and group psychotherapy as needed.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of a client’s cognitive, emotional, physical, and social strengths and needs.
  • Completes various documentation related to adolescent mother’s treatment in the agency’s Electronic Health Record (e.g., eLogic Genesis client information system) within the established time frames.
  • Maintains familiarity with and handles client information in accordance with Federal Regulations (42 CFR, Part 2), State regulations and other applicable laws pertaining to Private Health Information (PHI), HIPAA and confidentiality of client, staff and agency information.
  • Maintains physical security of confidential materials and assigned agency property.
  • Participates in individual and/or group clinical supervision with licensed mental health professional.
  • Maintains accurate, timely chart information in compliance with local, private and state funding sources and agency quality assurance guidelines. Meet agency expectations for documentation of services.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work and meet the Agency’s performance quality assurance and productivity standards.
  • Provides training and consultation, as appropriate, in areas of expertise to AFLP caseworkers, staff and parents.
  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills that foster respect, teamwork, trust, clarity and collaboration with the client, their family, caseworkers, program staff, other practitioners/supervisors, program managers and other CommUnify administrative staff.
  • Maintains professional competencies through a program of professional development and in-services training.
  • Provides information and education in the community, representing self, and the Agency in a positive and professional manner.
  • Organizes schedule, prioritizes responsibilities, and manages time effectively to complete assessments, treatment plans, client/family counseling, progress notes and supervisory/administrative duties.
  • Completes monthly and annual reports to Clinical Director.
  • Attends program-related meetings as necessary and/or directed by Clinical Director.

Education and/or Experience:  Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMFT, LCSW) with a valid California State license required. Experience in early childhood and youth parenting issues; must have strong observation, assessment, treatment planning and psychotherapeutic skills.

Computer Skills:  To perform this position successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license.  A valid California Driver’s license with current auto insurance is required.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.  Skilled in working with young children and families.
