Santa Barbara Maritime Museum to Hold Open House Information Session for Prospective Docents!

Free
Organizer: Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

Do you enjoy meeting and talking with people from California, across the US, and around the world? Do you want to share your love and knowledge  of our beautiful harbor with visitors? Do you have at least three hours a week to volunteer? If so, come to a Prospective Docent Open House at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) on Sunday, December 5, 2021, from 3 pm – 4 pm, to learn more about the Museum, its docent program, and the next training class which will begin Saturday, January 8, 2022!

On Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 3 pm, members of the public who are interested in becoming SBMM docents are invited to attend an Open House Information Session for Prospective Docents. Attendees will get to have a free guided tour of the Museum with Executive Director Greg Gorga, whose tours are always entertaining.

Docents study and learn from the experts about the native Chumash people, commercial diving and fishing milestones, the Channel’s military history, and Santa Barbara as the birthplace of the environmental movement. They also get behind-the-scenes information from the artists, photographers, and curators whose work is shown throughout the museum, such as Ralph Clevenger, the photographer behind the current exhibit, Mermaids: Visualizing the Myths & Legends – Photography by Ralph A. Clevenger & Friends.

Become a docent and enjoy the social and physical environment of SBMM, make new friends, help visitors from around the world get the most out of the Museum, explain exhibits, and assist with special events, community festivals and art openings.

To attend the docent open house, RSVP at volunteer@sbmm.org  or by calling 805 456-8748.
