As part of our Granada Centennial film series, Santa Barbara Home Movies: Films by Artists and Performers Who Call Santa Barbara Home.
Steal Big, Steal Little (directed by Andrew Davis) is set right here in Santa Barbara. It begins with the Solstice Parade down State Street – not a restaging, the actual Solstice Parade. You’ll recognize lots of Santa Barbara locations and maybe even some familiar faces. It’s a Santa Barbara Home Movie in every sense of the word.
Ruben and Robby are twin brothers from Mexico, adopted by Mona, one of the wealthiest – and most eccentric – women in Santa Barbara. Ruben is devoted to Mona, but Robby is more devoted to her money. When Mona leaves her fortune and estate to Ruben it starts a battle between brothers that soon leads to madness, mayhem, and even attempted murder.
But whether they’re stealing big or stealing little, they’re all stealing in this hilarious comedy about greed, power… and brotherly love.
