Contemprorary Issues Forum at Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara

Erik Talkin, CEO of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, has helped to pioneer a novel approach to ending hunger through good nutrition that transforms the health of people. It begins with food literacy and an understanding of the conditions and lifestyle of the population being served. In his 16 years as CEO of the Foodbank, Erik has learned the importance of designing food distribution and meals around the needs of low-income families, building nutrition into daily diets, and educating families – especially children – about the importance of healthy eating. Erik and his team have gone beyond the traditional scope of a food bank to include nutrition education, disaster preparedness, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. Could this approach become a model for food banks throughout the United States?

Please join us for the tenth and final installment of the 2023-2024 season of the Contemporary Issues Forum on June 12 from 7:00-9:00 PM.
