COST: [$225]
Organizer: Community Environmental Council
Posted by:cecsbnprn

In 2021, CEC became the first (and currently only) Central Coast nonprofit to partner with the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources to launch the innovative UC Climate Stewards course. This new offering is part of a statewide effort to build on-the-ground support to advance local and state climate goals. Many Central Coast non-profit staff have joined our previous courses and found the experience impactful. We invite you to apply for our next course, which begins May 4, 2022! https://climatestewards.cecsb.org

To date, nearly 50 individuals – ranging from college students to retirees – have become certified, actively advocating for climate solutions. Thirty-percent of our graduates represent the BIPOC community; 5% identify as non-binary; and 40% are fully funded through scholarships.

COST: The course fee is $225. Full scholarships will be available to cover the course fee and required reading materials. Need-based aid is available.

Jenna Tosh, CEO Planned Parenthood California Central Coast became a Climate Steward earlier this year and said: “If you’re like me, you know that the impacts of climate change are already having devastating impacts on the people and communities that our nonprofit community serves – and that this is only going to get worse. But if all of us take action, we can mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis, and build resilient and equitable communities where people and ecosystems can thrive. The CEC Climate Stewards program is a great way for the nonprofit sector to come together to engage in the solutions we need to combat the climate crisis. Nonprofit leaders and staff at all levels gain so much from this program – actionable information, community connections, and empowerment to involved.”

Each and every day, Community Environmental Council (CEC) delivers on a 50+ year commitment to putting the Central Coast – and California – on track for an equitable climate-safe future. Key to this is working across the region to inform, unite, and activate a broad range of Central Coast residents to be stewards of climate action, so that together we can move at the unprecedented pace required to reverse, repair, and protect against climate threats.
