People’s Self-Help Housing approved as a MediCal Community Support Provider through new CalAIM Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –  Central Coast, CA – April 3, 2023People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) was approved to become a Community Support provider for the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) system, which will be offered through their onsite Supportive Housing Program (SHP). The organization was also awarded over $70,000 by CenCal Health to support the implementation and expansion of these services.

Provided through the Department of Health Care Services, CalAIM is a long-term commitment to transform and strengthen Medi-Cal in hopes of offering Californians a more equitable, coordinated, and person-centered approach to maximizing their health and life trajectory. With assistance from the Supportive Housing team, PSHH residents using MediCal will now benefit from:

  • Improved quality outcomes, reduced health disparities, and transformation of the delivery system through value‑based initiatives, modernization, and payment reform
  • Reduced complexity and increased flexibility in navigating Medi-Cal services
  • More equitable, coordinated, and person-centered care

“We’re so grateful to be able to serve our residents in this new, expanded capacity,” said Rick Gulino, Director of Resident Services & Neighborhood Development. “The services administered through our Supportive Housing Program are critical to our efforts of bringing sustained stability and compassionate care to our neighborhoods.”

To meet the needs of PSHH residents, the Supportive Housing Program combines compassionate property management with service-enriched housing. The program currently offers free, confidential, clinical case management and onsite care to over 5,000 residents in three counties. To meet additional demand, PSHH partners with over 70 area agencies, which connects community members to local resources and area wellness programs. These partnerships include: health screenings, counseling, mental health support, food distribution, rental assistance, wellness seminars, and more. With the support of the CalAIM program and new funding from CenCal Health, PSHH Social Workers will be better equipped to serve residents throughout the region.
