Intake Forms Available December 2 for PSHH Home Ownership Program in San Miguel

Central Coast, CA – November 25, 2024 – On Monday, December 2, People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) will be releasing intake forms for their newest home ownership project: Mission Gardens II.

Located in San Miguel, San Luis Obispo County, this new development will see a group of owner-builders constructing 14 single-story homes located at the end of N Street, south of 11th Street. Each home will have three or four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two-car garage. They will also come equipped with energy-efficient features and PV solar.

The PSHH Home Ownership program works alongside households to guide them in the construction of their homes. Groups working together with professional supervision will be taught the basic construction skills needed to build the new neighborhood. Households considering participating in the program must be able to contribute 40+ hours per week, over a 12-13 month period. In total, close to 2,100 hours of work at the construction site is required. This effort, ‘sweat-equity’, is used in lieu of a down payment. With the additional help of a low-interest rate mortgage, this will help participating households become homeowners.

“This program has been the sustained heartbeat of our organization since its founding in 1970,” said Jimmy Summer, PSHH Director of Home Ownership. “We are thrilled to bring a new neighborhood to San Luis Obispo County and to provide more opportunities for people to achieve the wealth-building opportunity of home ownership and the stability that brings.”
