PURPOSE
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting Teachers with general supervision and management of children in the classroom between the ages of 6 weeks to kindergarten age. This person must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children and their families and be willing to fulfill all responsibilities in accordance with our philosophy, goals, and discipline statement. This individual must be professionally prepared to meet all licensing requirements.
THE ORGANIZATION
St. Vincent’s is a Roman Catholic organization which provides programs for children, families, and seniors that are based on community needs. St. Vincent’s is the oldest continually operating human service agency in Santa Barbara. St. Vincent’s began operations in 1858.
ACCOUNTABIITY
The Teacher Assistant position is part of a classroom team and reports to the Site Supervisor of St. Vincent’s Children’s Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current enrollment in ECE coursework highly preferred, with commitment to earning Early Childhood Education Teacher degree required.
- 6 months of experience in a classroom setting or lab preferred.
- Adult/Child/Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.
- Pre-employment negative TB test.
- Ability to work independently with a strong level of organizational skills.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with all levels of clients.
- Possess good writing and speaking skills.
- Must demonstrate personal identity with and commitment to the mission and values of St. Vincent’s.
- Is conscientious in follow through on job requirements and has the ability to be a self-starter.
- Possess the ability to generate enthusiasm, inspire confidence, and lend support.
Must pass criminal background fingerprint check and pre-employment negative TB test. Childhood Vaccinations must also be up to date with certifications provided.
The COVID-19 vaccination may be a requirement depending on the position within St. Vincent’s.
Hourly Pay $18.00 to $22.00 / DOE – Monday – Friday.
