Street Outreach Worker – Temporary Part-time Position until 06/30/2025

We are seeking highly motivated self-starters to join our Outreach Team as a Street Outreach Worker. This role will provide direct, field-based outreach and engagement services to unsheltered individuals in the City of Santa Barbara, helping them connect to vital services and housing through our California Encampment Resolution Fund (CERF) program.  The ideal candidate is empathetic, solution-focused, and able to build trust with hard-to-reach individuals while maintaining professionalism and clear boundaries.

About New Beginnings:

New Beginnings is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness and supporting individuals in crisis throughout Santa Barbara. We offer compassionate, trauma-informed services designed to connect people experiencing homelessness to housing and critical resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness in Santa Barbara.
  • Work primarily in the field, with limited in-office duties.
  • Work alongside outreach Case Managers to perform screening assessments to determine client eligibility for the CERF program.
  • Support seasoned CERF staff with program enrollments and service connections (e.g., healthcare, mental health, legal aid, substance abuse treatment, benefits, employment).
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required documentation in accordance with program policies.
  • Engage in collaborative safety planning and be aware of surroundings when conducting outreach.
  • Attend staff meetings, community outreach events, and trainings as required.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and cultural compassion during outreach.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant experience or higher education a plus.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License and reliable, insured vehicle required.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and comfortable using email and data entry systems.
  • Must pass background check and meet insurance carrier’s driving requirements.
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience conducting field-based outreach.
  • Prior experience working with high-barrier/homeless populations.
  • Ability to communicate with populations of numerous backgrounds and diverse ethnicities.
  • Familiarity with local resources and services available to individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience supporting clients in meeting program requirements and qualifications.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Flexible schedule. Mornings, Evenings and Weekends available.
  • Starting hourly wage: $26.00 to $28.00 per hour (D.O.E.)
  • Position available immediately.
