Summary of Job Details
The Senior Director of Development, Regional Giving (“Director”), reports to the Senior Director, Regional & Constituent Programs (“Senior Director”), with a primary emphasis on increasing philanthropic support to UC Santa Barbara by maximizing the interest, involvement and commitment of alumni, parents and friends as well as select corporations and foundations in the assigned regions. Specific regions include, but aren’t limited to, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest. The Director focuses on the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual prospects including alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Primary solicitation focus will be on major gifts ($100,000 or more) and new and renewing annual leadership gifts ($10,000 to $99,999). Occasional emphasis will be on Leadership level gifts ($1M+) and planned gifts. With regard to major gift fundraising, the Director, in partnership with the Senior Director, designs and executes planned strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, closing and stewardship of gifts from individuals. Works personally with top donor prospects and also supports the Senior Director, the Associate Vice Chancellor of Development, other campus administrators and key volunteers in top prospect relationships, in order to maximize philanthropic support of UC Santa Barbara. The Director focuses about seventy percent (70%) time on activities directly related to the fundraising gift cycle. Thirty percent time (30%) is focused on other activities related to fundraising, including events, affinity-focused efforts, specific constituent and industry engagement, volunteer committee engagement and administrative and managerial duties, such as planning, supervising and coordinating. The Director prioritizes work by focusing the majority of fundraising activities by assigned geographic region(s) and through affinity-focused and industry efforts. In close collaboration with the Senior Director, sustain, grow and develop regional operations and a network of ambassadors in Southern California and the Pacific Northwest, and other regions as assigned. This targeted approach allows the Director to coordinate activities in the most efficient and strategic manner. Regional assignments may be altered or redefined at the discretion of the Senior Director.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and equivalent experience & training
- 7-9 years of experience in individual major donor development or related profession. Required
- 7-9 years of experience in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing customized donor cultivation activities, such as dinners, luncheons, receptions, meetings, and tours. Required
- 7-9 years of experience with a proven success in major gift fundraising. Required
Special Conditions of Employment
- This is an annually renewable contract position with no limit in total duration. – Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Budgeted Salary: $115,000 – 130,000/yr. with full benefits
