Program Coordinator– 30 hours a week

The coordinator will report to the Steering Committee of the Central Coast Social Justice Academy.

Project Overview:  The Academy is a nine-month capacity building program for staff members of social justice organizations to strengthen their movement building skills, leadership, and local networks. The program will operate in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Support is also needed in organizing an annual three-day community organizing training.

Responsibilities:

The coordinator will:

– conduct outreach to nonprofit organizations and recruit program participants and coaches. Gather applications and share with Steering Committee for selection of applicants.

– communicate with program participants, coaches, and trainers through all stages of the program.

– facilitate introductions between participants and their coaches. Address issues that arise with coaching assignments.

– manage all program logistics, including booking venues and caterers, scheduling interpreters, managing AV needs, and purchase of meeting food and supplies.

– schedule Zoom “Deep Dive” sessions for participants. Schedule and attend planning meetings for the community organizing training.

– schedule and attend meetings of the Steering Committee and take meeting minutes. Prepare regular written reports to the Steering Committee to keep them apprised of project activities.

– attend all program events and provide logistical support including room set-up, coordination of meals and interpretation, participant check-in, and technology support.

– manage payment of invoices, including participant travel stipends, payments for coaches, consultants, trainers, interpreters, venues, and caterers. Maintain oversight of expenditures to ensure project expenses are within the approved budget.

– write progress reports as needed to fulfill grant obligations. Work with the Steering Committee and the Fund for Santa Barbara staff to draft and submit grant requests and meet with prospective funders, as needed.

– help inform the program evaluation and support the program evaluator in gathering evaluation data.

 

Conditions of Employment:

This is a remote position. The candidate must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings during program events. Occasional travel throughout the Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties region is required.

Qualifications:

A passion for social justice work in the region and proven experience in nonprofit program management.

Must be a self-starter and self-directed, able to work independently, and exercise good judgment and time management.

Excellent writing, communications, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Has a strong personal interest and commitment to working in an inclusive environment that places a high value on equity.

Fluency in Spanish language.

Proficient knowledge in MS Office, Google Workspace, and Internet literacy.

Compensation:  $30 per hour and $200/month work-from-home stipend. This position is non-exempt. Full health insurance coverage, including dental and vision, for staff and dependents. A three percent match for a Simple IRA retirement plan. Pro-rated PTO as follows: 15 days paid time off and 13 paid holidays. Accident coverage through AFLAC (any additional coverage will be paid by employee) is also offered.

Employer: As fiscal sponsor for the Central Coast Social Justice Academy, the Fund for Santa Barbara will be the employer for this position. However, the coordinator will report to the Academy’s Steering Committee, with the Executive Director of the McCune Foundation as the direct report.
