Explore Ecology
Explore Ecology is currently hiring for an EE Makerspace Coordinator to oversee all programming and develop exciting new opportunities for our community to get creative, including workshops for ages 5 to adult, school partnerships, and private events. The Makerspace Coordinator’s primary role will be to organize and coordinate all art programming in unison with the Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Store Coordinator. The Makerspace Coordinator reports to the Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Coordinator and the Executive Director.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create, plan, and implement Makerspace programming including but not limited to:
  • Public programming (Weekly Crafternoons, open to the public and focused on young makers, monthly offerings of open
    Makerspace time, adult workshops)
  • School partnerships (K-12 field trips and school site programming)
    Private events (space rentals, birthday parties, corporate events)
  • Care for and operate Makerspace Equipment and educate others on how to properly maintain and operate equipment (laser cutter, sewing machines, cricut), and materials management
  • Develop and lead workshops
  • Recruit and train volunteers
  • Provide community outreach in support of the EE Makerspace
  • Create and showcase innovative projects with samples and instruction
  • Manage event booking and website listings
  • Support Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Store with organization, stocking, and POS system, as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Makerspace workshop and Creative Reuse Store
    Must be available to work throughout Santa Barbara County
  • Regular meetings with the Executive Director and program leads; availability to meet with other staff, as needed
  • Occasional off-site and remote work permitted upon approval from Executive Director

SCHEDULING

  • Full Time: approximately 30-40 hours per week
  • Must be able to work 1 – 2 evenings per week and Saturdays, as needed

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree desired
    Teaching experience preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Professional experience in a relevant field (Education, Art, Program Coordination, Maker Education)
  • Experience working with large groups of students from Preschool up
  • Experience leading and supervising open workshops, preferably with adults
  • Experience utilizing a variety of materials and art forms to create projects and make ideas come to life
  • Grant writing and management (not required)

SKILLS

  • A creative person, willing to take risks and explore a wide variety of materials and projects
  • Passionate about arts and crafts, comfortable learning new art techniques and mediums
  • Comfortable using Makerspace equipment and power tools (Glowforge, sewing machines)
  • Organization and ability to manage multiple projects at once, good record-keeping and documentation
  • Confident speaking in front of large groups – from children to adults
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Slack, Asana, Canva, Square

PAY AND BENEFITS

  • Pay Range: $21 – $25 per hour
  • Full Time Employee: 30-40 hours
  • 2 weeks per year of paid vacation
  • 9 days per year of sick time
  • 8 paid holidays per year
