JOB DUTIES:
- Provide individual counseling for sexual assault survivors and family members, as well as CSEC and Juvenile Hall clients.
- Assess clients’ primary needs and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide group counseling for rape survivors, child abuse victims, adults molested as children (AMAC), survivors, and/or family members as needed.
- Provide group counseling groups for teens on topics such as healthy relationships, abuse, etc. through coordinated efforts with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club and the YMCA.
- Assist with training new volunteer/advocates.
- Assist with community outreach, presentations and speaking engagements.
- Serve as liaison to therapists and agencies involved in ongoing sexual assault/child abuse cases.
- Provide in-service training to volunteers and professionals in areas such as crisis intervention, Rape Trauma Syndrome, and family dynamics.
- Compile monthly reports, including staff reports, to include counseling services.
- Provide individual assistance to clients in crisis on a drop-in and/or scheduled basis; accompany survivors to criminal court proceedings as needed.
- Make clear, concise reports by phone and in writing of any suspected child abuse disclosed through school presentations, or hotline calls if requested.
- Attend training when necessary to enhance skills.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Assist with office duties, fundraising efforts, and staff hotline coverage on days assigned and assist with translation to other staff when needed if schedule allows.
- Perform additional duties as required by Finance/HR Director, Associate Director, or Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of volunteer/advocate training upon hire.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a must.
- College degree and/or related experience.
- Experience in child abuse/sexual assault counseling/crisis intervention preferred.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues regarding sexual assault, child abuse, women’s issues, and violence against women.
- Ability to train and work closely with volunteers and staff.
- Ability to initiate, develop, and implement program-related material.
- Knowledge of community resources; experience in working with agencies and community professionals.
- Sensitivity and ability to deal with people of different cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
- Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.
- Demonstrated skills in time management.
- Flexibility regarding work hours.
- Possession of valid California driver’s license, current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
- Accessible by telephone; ability to respond to accompaniment location within 30 minutes.
