The Children’s Services Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management, oversight, staff development, monitoring, and coordination of Head Start, Early Head Start, and Child Development programs in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Policies, and Procedures, and State of California Licensing Requirements by assisting in all program operations as a member of the Planning and Development Team (PDT).

Position is full-time with full benefits and starts between $81,390.40 – $91,520.00 annually.
Supervisory Responsibilities Manage subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the program. Is responsible for the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the work units. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, program policies, funding source requirements, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching; mentoring; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.
- Collects departmental data specific to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion accomplishments to be used for annual evaluation.
- Implements policies and procedures to ensure standards create a culture of belonging and do not create a disparate impact on staff or clients.
- Develop, monitor, and manage budgets and prepare financial-related reports.
- Provide direction and supervision to staff responsible for program planning, implementation, and monitoring in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Facilitates (or co-facilitates) monthly Program Development Team meetings in lieu of the Department Director.
- Assists with program planning, day-to-day management, and staff training, development plans, coaching, and mentoring of staff.
- Implements annual staff institute and ongoing staff training that engages staff through coaching and development to improve employee engagement, boost confidence, increase retention, and strengthen relationships.
- Plan, organize and leads in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of internal communication systems, including program-planning calendar, strategic planning calendar, and project timelines.
- Ensures that all facilities and equipment are safe and provide a healthy environment consistent with local/state codes, Head Start Program Performance, and Community Standards.
- Assists with the development and implementation of systems of evaluation and organizational self-assessment for continuous quality improvement.
- In collaboration with Department Director, meets with Region IX and State Department of Education consultants.
- Attends Leadership Team meetings and other agency-driven committees as requested.
- Maintains a focus on staff wellness by evaluating and updating wellness programs as necessary to improve the physical and mental well-being of employees.
- Acts on behalf of the Department Director at public and other local functions or agency meetings when requested or when the Department Director is unavailable.
- Oversees internal monitoring systems, provides written reports on department operations and makes recommendations for change, expansion, and quality improvements.
- Makes recommendations on the improvement and implementation of best practices related to the use of technology within the programs to streamline data.
- Develops dashboards to monitor service impact, program quality, staff experience, and client relations.
- Assists with grant writing when needed or requested.
- Performs other related duties as requested by Department Director.

Demonstrated ability to administer programs and supervise staff effectively.
- Ability to understand and interpret federal and state requirements as well as local, state, and national trends.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff and all segments of the community, including parents, public officials, and funding agents.
- Is knowledgeable in all areas of Head Start services: Child development, Health, Nutrition, Family and Community Partnerships, and Disabilities.
Education and/or Experience BA in Management and Administration, Human Development, Public Health, Nutrition, Education, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field and 5 years of management/leadership experience in programs (of similar size and complexity as that operated at CommUnify) preferably in a non-profit, community-based health, social services or educational organization WITH experience in supervision of staff, fiscal management, and administration. Master’s degree preferred with 3-5 years related experience.
Computer Skills To perform this position successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid California driver’s license, current insurance coverage and an acceptable driving record, as determined by the Agency. Must hold valid Program Director permit.
Other Skills and Abilities Bilingual highly desirable.
