Position:              Accounting Coordinator (20-25 hours/week)

Location:              Flexible. This person can work remotely from anywhere in the Santa Barbara area or work from our corporate headquarters in Goleta, or any combination thereof. This person must live in the Santa Barbara area.

Salary Range:       $20-$25/hour

Role or Purpose of Position

Vitamin Angels is seeking a Accounting Coordinator for the Finance & Accounting department.

 

This role will report to the Accounting Manager and will also work closely with the Program Officers and other accounting and finance staff. This role will support the accounting operations of Vitamin Angels by reviewing, coding, and entering in accounts payable invoices into the accounting system, supporting the team in the management of employee credit cards, being responsible for mail pick up and sorting, and assisting with bank deposits. This person will have experience with Excel and have a basic understanding of accounting or bookkeeping concepts.

 

This is an excellent position for someone who has some education and/or experience in accounting, finance, or business management, is highly organized, efficient, has a strong attention to detail, and is a critical thinker.

This position will work to promote, exemplify and further the mission , values and culture of Vitamin Angels.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Review and processing of in-country advisor accounts payable invoices, with a quick turnaround, including input into Sage Intacct
• Support the Accounting Manager in oversight of the corporate credit card platform
• Weekly mail pickup at two locations (PO Box in Santa Barbara and at the office location in Goleta)
• Semi-weekly bank deposit
• Other special projects, as needed

 

Level of Decision-Making

 

Within the bounds of VA’s mission, values and policies, and sound professional practices, the Accounting Coordinator with the Accounting Manager to make decisions of significant consequence that affect VA clients, partners, and employees.

 

Organizational Relationships

 

VA operates under a collaborative, matrix management model. The Senior Accountant establishes their own daily work priorities and ensures that all responsibilities are conducted consistent with accepted best practices, sound professional judgment and within established schedule and budget.

Primary working relationships:

Staff Accountant, Accounting Manager, Associate Director of Finance & Accounting, Senior Director of Finance & Accounting, Program Officers, In-Country Program Advisors, CFO

Travel required:

Travel by car ~10-15 miles/week within Santa Barbara County.

 

Qualifications and Skills (Required and Preferred)

Required:

 

• Completion of an introductory accounting, finance, or business management class; Accounting degree (in process or completed) preferred
• Demonstrated experience using Excel
• Must have a valid driver’s license, have access to a reliable vehicle, and be able to perform errands around Santa Barbara County.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically
• Strong attention to detail and desire to for accuracy in their work
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time, including but not limited to general job assignments perform at a desk.
• Ability to manage stress, including but not limited to stress resulting from large crowds, open spaces, shared office space, and daily activities.
• Ability to lift, or carry, approximately 20-40 lbs. on a regular basis.
