Fundraising During a Recession: What to Know and How to Plan

We will examine the impact of past recessions on the nonprofit sector and explore what organizations can do today to prepare for a recession, including providing direct tips for working with donors and budget forecasting.
About Raissa Smorol
Raissa is the Senior Director of Leadership Giving at the Center for Reproductive Rights, bringing over 27 years of fundraising and donor relations experience. She oversees major gifts, planned gifts, and events teams at the Center, and has previously held leadership positions at the Santa Barbara City College Foundation, Direct Relief, and the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara. As a consultant in New York, Raissa provided fundraising counsel to several organizations, including the Innocence Project, Safe Horizon, GMHC, MENTOR, Greyston Foundation, BELL, the New York Police Foundation, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She also played a lead consulting role in helping World Vision USA launch a $500 million fundraising campaign. Raissa earned her B.S. from Cornell University and her MPA from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She currently resides in Santa Barbara, California.
