Embrace sustainable gift-giving this season with our Furoshiki Workshop, led by Emily Adams. Learn the art of Furoshiki, the traditional Japanese practice of wrapping gifts and items in cloth. It is beautiful, reusable, and an earth-friendly alternative to gift bags and wrapping paper – most of which are non-recyclable.
Emily will guide you in sewing, finishing raw edges, and folding fabric into unique, reusable gift wraps. We’ll provide fabric, a serger, decorative tags, and more! No sewing experience necessary—just bring your creativity. All materials provided, but feel free to bring your own cloth if you wish.
Join us December 4th and make this holiday season a little greener!
Artist Bio: Emily Adams was taught to sew by her mother on her great-grandmother’s foot-powered Singer and began sewing her own clothes in 2007. At the time, she was a busy freelance writer and quickly discovered the meditative and calming influence of a regular sewing practice. Her work is focused on using natural fibers and building clothes that last, and her true desire is to nurture a community of sewists who support and encourage one another’s creative and practical needs. She teaches workshops and classes at Santa Barbara City College, The Crafter’s Library, and the EE Makerspace above Art From Scrap.
