This August, as part of Santa Barbara Pacific Pride’s lineup of Pride Month events, The Marjorie Luke Theatre is proud work in partnership with and Santa Barbara Pacific Pride and present a timely and important film screening: She’s the He, directed by Santa Barbara’s own Siobhan McCarthy.
Synopsis: Just before graduation, Alex and Ethan pretend to be trans women to sneak into the girls’ locker room. It’s all a joke—until Ethan realizes she really is trans. As the two teens navigate their shifting friendship, they discover the complexity—and the joy—of living authentically.
This is a trans story made by trans filmmakers, created for the trans community and allies alike.
She’s The He is more than just a film—it’s a joyful, affirming, and deeply human response to today’s climate of fear and misinformation targeting the trans community. In a time when trans youth are increasingly under attack, this film shines a light on acceptance, friendship, and the power of coming out.
The evening will also include a post-film panel discussion featuring members of the film’s cast and crew.
