Santa Barbara, CA — The Music Academy of the West is pleased to announce the appointments of Pamela Strobel and Terry Valeski to the Board of Directors for three-year terms. Mr. Valeski will also serve as Co-Chair of the Music Academy’s Marketing Committee effective January 2019, and Ms. Strobel will serve on the Academy’s Education and Outreach Committee.

Pamela Strobel is the retired executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Exelon and retired president of Exelon’s Business Services Company. She also served as chairman and CEO of Exelon Energy Delivery, the holding company for the corporation’s energy delivery businesses, PECO Energy in Philadelphia and ComEd in Chicago. Prior to the merger of PECO and Unicom, Strobel was executive vice president of Unicom Corporation and its chief subsidiary, ComEd. She joined ComEd as General Counsel in 1993, prior to which she was a partner in the law firms of Sidley & Austin and Isham, Lincoln & Beale. Currently, Strobel serves as a director of Domtar Corporation, Illinois Tool Works Inc., and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. She is a past trustee of the University of Illinois, life director and past chair of the Joffrey Ballet, life trustee and past chair of the Ravinia Festival, and life trustee and past chair of the Civic Consulting Alliance. She was a founding board member and past director of ChiArts, the first public high school for the arts in Chicago. She is also a member of the Chicago Network and the Commercial Club of Chicago. Her honors include: The 2009 Arts Advocate Award from the Illinois Arts Alliance; The 2003 Association of Professional Fundraisers award for Executive Leadership; The 2003 Myra Bradwell Award for Excellence in the Profession from the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois; The 2002 Luminary Award from the Girl Scouts of Chicago; The Diversity 2000 Award from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association; The 1997 Founder’s Award from the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women; and the 1997 Women of Achievement Award from the Anti-Defamation League. In 1996, she was named a distinguished alumnus of the University of Illinois College of Law and in 2006 she was honored by the U. of I. Alumni Association as one of its Chicago Alumni of the Year. In 2002, she was named to Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women, received the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s Outstanding Achievement Award in Business, and was inducted into Today’s Chicago Woman Hall of Fame. In 2004, she was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ list of 100 Most Influential Women and the Chicago Sun-Times’ list of Top 10 Businesswomen in Chicago.
Strobel received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Illinois, where she was a Bronze Tablet recipient and a member of the law review. Ms. Strobel is married to Russ Strobel and they have two grown children, Ben and Libby.
Terrence Valeski, also known as Terry, has been an Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and Director at Brand Embassy Ltd. since May 2016. Mr. Valeski served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Eurotel Praha from 2000 to 2005. Mr. Valeski served as the Managing Director of Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, A.s. Mr. Valeski joined AIRCOM in 2006. He also served as the President and Managing Director of Pacific Bell of US where he had been responsible for Northern California. He served as an Executive Director for Marketing in BT Wireless (British Telecom). He served as an Executive Director for Operations in Blu of Italy and Telfort, a Dutch mobile and fixed line operator owned by BT. Mr. Valeski served as Chief Executive of Czech mobile operator Eurotel. Mr. Valeski served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for various companies including Atari Corporation; Mattel, Inc. Teledyne WaterPik, Inc. and J. Walter Thompson Company. He served as an Executive Chairman of AIRCOM International, Ltd., since 2006. Mr. Valeski served as the Chairman of Sonim Technologies. He served as Vice Chairman of T-Mobile Czech Republic. Mr. Valeski serves as a Director of Intellisync Corporation. He worked at Ceske Radiokomunikace AS since December 2006. Mr. Valeski served as a Member of Board of Advisors of Adventis Corporation. Mr. Valeski served as a Director of AIRCOM International, Ltd. Mr. Valeski serves as a Member of governing bodies of American Chamber of Commerce, Mobile Payments Association CR, CMC Business Management School, Junior Achievement CR, Nadace Eurotel, and Prague Spring Music Festival. Mr. Valeski served as a Director of Sonim Technologies, Inc. Mr. Valeski served as a Director of Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, since February 13, 2004 and TMobile International AG & Co. KG since December, 2006. Mr. Valeski has served on the board of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History since 2014. Mr. Valeski holds an EA degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Arizona.
