Overview

Sheba Lux formed GrantSage, LLC in 2008 to provide needed, high quality grant writing services in Santa Barbara County. As the owner of GrantSage, Sheba has written local, regional and national grants for more than eighteen years, successfully raising needed grant funding for numerous nonprofit organizations including: Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, Dream Foundation, Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association, Lompoc Teen Center, Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, The Foundation for Santa Barbara City College, Hospice of Santa Barbara, the Jewish Federation of Santa Barbara, Adventures in Caring, Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinics, Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Wildlife Care Network and others.

Sheba’s clients are happy to provide feedback regarding their experiences and successes. In the meantime, the following is feedback received from Gretchen Hewlett, Director of Development at The Foundation for Santa Barbara City College: “Sheba Lux is a stupendous asset to have working with any organization. Her service and work product are uniformly professional, responsive, and (best of all) successful. In my 20 years in development, I’ve not worked with any grant writer who is as proactive or who yields the results that Sheba does. We are lucky to have her working for our team!”

Sheba also has excellent relationships with local funders, which immensely impacts her clients. Funders know that if a grant is written by Sheba, it will be extremely high quality. Sheba also provides high quality reports to funders. In fact, funders say that the quality of reports provided by Sheba motivates them regarding ongoing funding for her clients.

Sheba’s clients have had incredible success at growing their grant programs. For example, when Sheba began working with The Foundation for Santa Barbara City College, a full-time in-house grant writer had just left. At that time $250,000 in grant income was being raised for the Foundation on an annual basis. Sheba was contracted for 25 hours per week, at which point the Foundation’s grant income began to skyrocket: After year one of working with Sheba, the Foundation’s grant income jumped to $500,000. In year two it increased to $850,000 in grant dollars raised. In year three, $1.2M in grant dollars were raised for the Foundation by Sheba, and the following year $1.4M in grant income was raised. “We cannot believe the dramatic increase in grant funds we’ve experienced working with Sheba, and we are only billed for 25 hours of grant writing time per week. It’s unheard of,” says Vanessa Bechtel, Executive Director.

Dramatically growing grant income is one of Sheba’s specialties.

Similar situations exist with Sheba’s other clients. For example, prior to working with Sheba, Sansum Diabetes Research Institute was raising $165,000 annually in grant funding. Within two years of contracting with Sheba, that income had increased to $550,000 annually. Ellen Goodstein, Executive Director: “Sheba is by far the best grant writer I’ve ever worked with.”
