Finding Solace: SB County 2-1-1 Helpline

This month NPRN and Santa Barbara County 2-1-1 are partnering on a “Community Connections” campaign to encourage all local health and human service providers to list their programs with 2-1-1. The 2-1-1 Helpline receives thousands of calls a year from people in need.  A recent call from “John” illustrates how 2-1-1 helps our community:

A 2-1-1 call specialist received a call from John, a worried father looking for assistance to support his three young children. After recently losing his job, John was searching for child support and counseling for his children, as well as for himself. Fighting back tears, John explained that he had recently applied for affordable housing and was searching for other options. 2-1-1’s call specialist gave John information about counseling services, contact information for low income housing and advised John to explain his situation. John says he is, “… very happy that Santa Barbara has 2-1-1 to guide me to services my family needs.”

The 2-1-1 database currently contains over 2400 Santa Barbara County resources but  we want to ensure  all health and human services programs are included. For more information about how to join the 2-1-1 Helpline go to:
