Position Summary

MOXI seeks a Program Educator to play a critical role in advancing MOXI’s mission. This position will be responsible for supporting MOXI’s youth education programs, including field trips, exploration labs, after school programs, and team building. Additionally, this position offers curriculum support, education material coordination, and Spark leadership for the MOXI Education team. The ideal candidate will have excellent teaching and learning skills; model MOXI behavior and mindset in interactions with visitors, staff, and volunteers; demonstrate a clear understanding of MOXI’s mission; and have a proven track record in both peer and program leadership.

 

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the lead educator for the Engineering Exploration Labs. Supports field trip curriculum implementation, staff training and program evaluation
  • Coordinates materials for education programs, including: Program Carts, Engineering Explorations, Innovation Workshop, and Camps
  • Provides support for education programs, curriculum evaluation, and camp implementation
  • Supports Floor Staff Supervisor as a Daily Lead Spark as needed
  • Acts as Lead Summer Camp Counselor (LSCC).
  • Acts as lead facilitator in daily camp activities assigned by the Camps and Outreach Manager.
  • Supervises camp counselors, junior camp counselors, and counselor-in-training volunteers
  • Coordinates camp staff in organizing camp space, materials, and activities, as well as implementing 10 weeks of STEAM camp curriculum for youth ages 5 and up.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all campers enrolled in summer camps both on site and off, which includes being the main point of communication for off-site lunch excursions.
  • Helps to anticipate, identify, communicate, and resolve camp and camper-related issues.
  • Engages as main point of communication for camp parents
  • Builds and fosters a fun and safe camp environment for all staff and campers that supports creativity, collaboration, and respect.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Passion for working with youth in science, engineering, and design-aligned programs
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and classroom management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to effectively communicate and answer questions from museum visitors, museum staff, campers, camp parents, and camp staff
  • CPR, First Aid, or equivalent certification is a plus

 

Education + Experience Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience working with youth in formal and/or informal educational spaces, specifically for ages 5-12; prior camp counselor experience preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs and behavioral issues preferred
  • Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and patience, flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
  • CPR, First Aid, or equivalent certification a plus
  • Spanish fluency a plus

 

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot and problem solve; Be highly organized and prompt; Work with multiple technologies
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing
  • Working hours: Monday through Friday 9 AM to 3 PM, with periodic availability required on nights, weekends, or early mornings to support MOXI programs. Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM during summer camp from 5/23 to 8/19.
  • This position requires the ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs; work with multiple technologies; stand for extended periods of time;
  • troubleshoot and problem solve; communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing

  • Regular predictable attendance is required
  • Employment background/ criminal check is required

Classification:            Part-time position; temporary full-time schedule during camp

Pay:                            $19.00/hour
