Carpinteria Children's Project

The Director of Early Learning leads the educational efforts for the children and families enrolled in the early childhood education program, leads education-focused initiatives for children in the Carpinteria community, and contributes to the leadership, growth and mission of the Carpinteria Children’s Project as a whole. The position supervises and mentors staff including site supervisors, master teachers, associate teachers, and instructional assistants.

  • Oversee the day-to-day program and classroom operations 
  • Management of scheduling, supervision, licensing, hiring. 
  • Oversee enrollment of children and supervise the maintenance of records on children and families as required by Community Care Licensing and others as necessary 
  • Supervise, model, and mentor staff to ensure CCP provides a high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and culturally sensitive early childhood education program that prepares children for kindergarten. Emphasis is on early literacy and mathematical thinking development social and emotional skills development in keeping with California-adopted early childhood curriculum and frameworks 
  • Oversee the implementation of the program-adopted student progress instruments and screening tools 
  • Maintain effective communication with families and staff
  • Support parent engagement strategies in collaboration with family support staff
  • Monitors program outcomes, evaluating program effectiveness, and staying current with research in the field
  • Develop and implement a continuous quality improvement plan (QRIS)
  • Assist with budget development and management
  • Oversee contract compliance and report program data and outcomes to funders as appropriate
  • Develop a staff development plan for teachers and evaluate teaching staff
  • May assist in the classroom when staffing is needed and rearrange staffing to accommodate needs of the program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure privacy in communications about children, families, and staff and colleagues.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara County to be knowledgeable about educational opportunities available to young children and families in our community and how to access them
  • Represent CCP with funders and the larger community and contribute to grant writing, fund development, and marketing
  • Contribute to team effort and meet regularly with teaching staff and leaders of other CCP programs to plan and monitor implementation of initiatives and ensure integration of program operations
  • Diaper and assist children with toileting as needed
  • May need to transport children from one site to another
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Executive Director

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a related field 
  • Directors permit on the California Child Development Permit Matrix required. 
  • At least 3 post-secondary units of early childhood education or child development focused on infants and toddlers
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with preschool age children is preferred. Experience in staff supervision and administration of early childhood education programs is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of growth and development birth through school-age
  • Experience maintaining compliance with Title 22 and Title 5 licensing regulations preferred
  • Ability to physically perform routine duties with young children
  • Preferably proficient in both English and Spanish and bicultural
  • Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required 
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver’s License are required
  • Willingness to be on call beyond program hours to call substitutes to ensure that classroom staffing is appropriate and to manage special events and emergencies 
  •  Covid-19 vaccine required
