Position Overview

The Communications Assistant is responsible for supporting the content production process of CEC’s Communications & Marketing team. This position collaborates to effectively achieve CEC’s strategic communications goals with a team that includes a Communications Associate, website administrator, graphic designers, photographers, writers, translators and other consultants or vendors.

Job Function & Responsibilities

  • Support in the active monitoring and updating of website content across all CEC web properties, engaging staff as needed to provide current stats and information.
  • Support graphic design needs, including utilizing templates to design basic graphics for ongoing social media, email marketing and website needs, and coordinating with graphic designers as needed.
  • Support in maintaining clear organization and complete records of past and incoming design files.
  • Support photo management, including developing shot lists for photographers, identifying select pictures to use in promotional materials, and organizing and labeling incoming and archival photos.
  • Support development and maintenance on the website of media kits and archival press, newsletters, webinars, and other CEC press and media..
  • Support social media postings as needed.
  • Provide back up to other facets of content production, such as setting up eblasts, drafting stories, or participating in webinar production.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with solid command of writing conventions, grammar, and voice.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, correspond (i.e., via email and text), ask clarifying questions, and collaborate at a fast pace to complete tasks with a deadline and respond to time-sensitive opportunities.
  • Familiarity with and/or comfort in quickly learning online tools/programs. Current systems include Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Dropbox, Slack, Teams, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems (Mailchimp), project management systems (Trello), and others.
  • Positive, approachable, flexible attitude with ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with co-workers, partners, and community members.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and self-starting skills.

Job Status and Compensation

  • 20 hours/week
  • Non-exempt position
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • This position will be based in our Santa Barbara office with opportunities to work from home.
