Santa Barbara Maritime Museum Seeks Operations Coordinator

The Operations Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager and assists the Operations Manager with the daily operations of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, including supervising Facility Assistants and coordinating internal and external events for the Museum. This person also acts as a liaison for clients, catering companies, and other vendors using the Museum’s facilities. Also responsible for opening and closing the museum on designated shift days, providing Kiosk and Store staff breaks, ongoing cleanliness and maintenance of the Museum, and is a point-of-contact for physical facility issues. During COVID-19, this position has the responsibility for the daily cleaning and sanitation of the Museum, all Museum exhibits, and all visitor and staff contact points (doors, buttons, light switches, etc.).


Opening / Closing Duties
On scheduled shifts, is in charge of:
-Opening and Closing Museum
-Providing Kiosk and Store staff with breaks as needed
-Conducting hourly safety and cleanup walk-throughs of the Museum

Works with the Operations Manager to assist guests in the booking process
-May give pre-booking tours of the rental spaces
-Makes sure all necessary documents are in Dropbox shared with Operations Manager
-Insures Day-Of-Event Sheets up to date with all details

Assists Operations Manager and Events Manager with Navigators Circle events, including:
-Tracks reservations
-Follows up with RSVPs and event inquiries
-Assists with set-up, management, and breakdown of events
-Interacts positively and professionally with Navigators Circle members, staff, and vendors

Monitors the Museum during events (internal and external)

Ensures the safety and cleanliness of all Museum spaces

Reports all damage to Executive Director, Curator, Operations Manager and Events Manager

Helps schedule repairs/cleaning as needed

Helps schedule all facility staff and security as needed.

Manages Internal events (i.e., Lectures)
-Able to oversee set-up, breakdown, and clean up, including bars and food areas
-Able to operate all Audio/Visual equipment
-Able to schedule, oversee, and direct Facility Assistants

Miscellaneous Duties

Assists and acts as a point-of-contact for weekly maintenance cleaning, including Alpha Resource volunteers

Helps Curator with cleaning of exhibit cases, including removing of glass and framing, and other duties as requested

Provides general Museum maintenance and repairs, and assists as a point-of-contact for outside maintenance vendors

Is proficient with all tech (projectors, laptops, camera system, Zoom)

*This position requires heavy lifting on a daily basis

This position is full-time with benefits, generally Monday through Friday with frequent nights and some weekend work. May require some heavy lifting and standing for long periods of time.
