International Cesarean Awareness Network of Santa Barbara (ICAN-SB) is hosting their 4th Annual Maternal Health Panel on April 12, from 6:30-9:30pm in the Unitarian Society of SB’s Parish Hall, 1535 Santa Barbara St., SB.
The event includes a mom’s panel, with women who’ve recently given birth talking about how they navigated the birthing options followed by a birth professionals panel discussing hot topics in birth. These topics include the evidence for eating in drinking in labor, what really does ‘your baby is big’ mean, how does being ‘post date’ limit your options as well as your rights for your birth and how to advocate for your rights. VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) options are always included in the discussions as there is still a VBAC ban at our only local hospital, which acts against the birthing woman’s rights to fully informed consent and autonomy.
More discussion topics include:
Positions for pushing / Amniotic fluid levels / VBAC / Breech / Intrauterine growth restriction / IVs & Hep locks / Self-advocacy and How these topics relate to cesareans.
