Recently, Braille Institute Santa Barbara hosted Active Aging with Low Vision: Focus on Cooking and Nutrition, a free community education event highlighting ways that people can stay safe in the kitchen as their vision changes.

This event featured a live cooking demonstration and discussion with Dr. John La Puma, leading physician, best-selling author and voice for healthy eating, wellness and nutrition.  Additional presenters included Jenifer Swartzentruber, MS, RD, CDE, registered dietician and certified diabetic educator and Lynn Dubinsky, MFA, Educational Programs Manager at Braille Institute Santa Barbara and certified wellness and health coach, who discussed mindfulness in the kitchen and adaptive cooking techniques.

Active Aging with Low Vision is a community education series featuring a panel of experts to raise awareness about local resources for people and families experiencing low vision or blindness. The next event, Active Aging with Low Vision: Focus on Technology, will take place on April 5th and will be free and open to the public.

These events are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Elaine F. Stepanek Foundation.
